About John TERENA

I am an aspiring printmaker based in the South West of England

I am particularly interested in the geometric shapes that appear in plants & nature, particularly in the sunflower that features prominently in my work.

I use traditional printmaking techniques including: relief printing with Japanese vinyl, etching on zinc and copper, aquatint, drypoint and monoprint.

I sometimes use digital technology to support my work including an iPad & AxiDraw drawing machine that can replicate my hand drawn images created with vector based drawing packages such as Graphic or Inkscape. With this technique I can transfer hand drawn images direct on to the resist ground on a metal plate reading for etching with the etching solution such as nitric acid for zinc plates or Edinburgh etch for copper plates.

I started experimenting with photopolymer plates a couple of years ago using Toyobo KM95 plates. Working with photopolymer plates avoids the need for harsh or corrosive chemical as the plates are developed at room temperature in warm water.

My work is available to buy, currently only through an exhibition the summer of each year.

The 6th Annual exhibition will take place in held in the West Barn in Bradford on Avon during on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th, and Sunday 16th August 2026.
